How it works

You ask for things on the request page, and watch or listen to them in Jellyfin and Audiobookshelf. A few short steps.

    Make your account

    Open the invite link you were sent, choose a username and a password (8 or more characters) and tap Create account. The same username and password work everywhere below, so remember them. If you forget them, ask whoever invited you.

    Get the Jellyfin app

    Connect to the server

    Open the app and choose Add server (or Connect to server). Enter this address exactly, with the https:// at the start and the :8443 at the end:

    Then sign in with your username and password. On a TV it is easier to use Quick Connect, which lets you approve the sign-in from your phone.

    Watch

    You will see everything that has been shared with everyone: movies, TV shows, music and YouTube videos. Whatever you request yourself appears here too, only for you. Nobody else can see what you asked for, and you can't see anyone else's.

    Ask for something new

    On the request page, sign in and type what you want in plain words:

    • Movie: Heat, or the 1995 movie Heat
    • TV show: Severance season 2
    • Music: the album Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
    • YouTube: paste a youtube.com or youtu.be link, up to 180 minutes long. It goes into your own "Videos for you" show
    • Audiobook: the audiobook of Project Hail Mary

    It finds a good copy, downloads it and checks that it plays. A movie usually takes a few minutes and a full TV season longer. You can close the page and come back; the request shows Ready when it is done. If it is already in the library it is ready straight away. If it asks a question, such as which movie you meant, just tap an answer.

    Audiobooks

    Audiobooks live in a separate app, Audiobookshelf (App Store or Google Play, or use a browser). Choose to add a server and enter:

    Sign in with the same username and password. The books you request show up there, only for you.

    Good to know

    • Offline: downloads are allowed. In the Audiobookshelf app, tap the download button on a book. For movies and shows, use an app that supports offline downloads, such as Streamyfin (iPhone and Android) or Findroid (Android). The standard iPhone app, Swiftfin, can't download.
    • Limits: up to 30 requests a month, 2 at a time.
    • Quality: streaming away from home is capped at 8 Mbps, which is plenty for a good 1080p picture. Downloads keep the original quality.
    • Trouble? If something looks wrong, buffers a lot or won't play, tell whoever invited you.
